Some practical and legal info about your data

  1. If you input data or use the site, we will collect data about you. We do this for several reasons. Please check our privacy practices described here and make sure that you are happy to continue using our applications.

    Who holds your data?

Your data is held by CEBT, an independent organisation located in Finland. You can contact CEBT via this email address: culture@cebt.fi. For data protection questions and requests, contact dpo@cebt.fi.

    Who can access your data?

If you have permitted a person or organisation to access your data in any CEBT application, they can access your data until you withdraw your consent, or until we naturally remove your old data. For example, the person or organisation may be your teacher, trainer or coach, your employer or a training company. If you've agreed access to your data in an employment or similar contract and you are using a CEBT application under that contract (for example, as part of your job), your employer may have access to your data. If you have participated in an open or invited initiative by someone using a CEBT application, for example a training provider, you will give permission to that person or organisation to access your data.

How will I know who has access to my data?

You can see who has access to your data in your account settings.

    Where is my data held?

Your data is held in an Amazon Web Services data centre in Germany, with backups in a different Amazon Web Services data centre in a different European Union country.

    What data do we collect?

We store the data you input into forms in CEBT applications. We also store some of the other actions you take in CEBT applications, such as likes, comments, visits, views, clicks. If other people are interacting with you and your identity in a CEBT application, for example if they vote for you or like something you posted or invite you to participate in something, we will store that data too.

Why do we collect data about you?

We need some data about you, so we can provide services to you, such as managing your account or offering personalised content. We will also analyse your inputs and actions in our applications, and store the results of this analysis. The purpose of such data is to provide you with useful information and ideas and also to give insights to people whom you've permitted to access your data, such as your trainer or employer. The overall purpose of all this data is to increase understanding of cultures and effectiveness of interaction between people, especially people of different cultures.

Will your personal data be sold to advertisers?

    No.

Will your personal data be used to target messages at you?

Yes! We hope you will enjoy the content, people and ideas available through CEBT applications. We certainly will enable others to connect with you, and for you to discover other people, if we judge this to be valuable for you, your team or community. We try to keep it clear to you when your data will be used in this way. We don't consider this marketing, but if you feel like CEBT and its users are targeting you too much through CEBT applications, please tell us. We will try to improve the situation or help you remove your data entirely from CEBT systems.

What are your data protection rights here?

If you are in the European Union, you have all the rights of a data subject under EU data protection regulations. We will not describe all those rights here, but those rights are very significant and easy for you to find with quick search for 'my GDPR rights'. They include the right to get your personal data, the right to have it corrected or erased and many more rights. If you are not in the European Union, we will try to honour your data protection rights at the same level as someone who is in the European Union, while also respecting complimentary data protection rights where you are.

    What about cookies?

CEBT web applications use cookies for technical reasons. Most websites would break without cookies. Cookies are one of many ways digital systems can store data. CEBT applications also use a variety of technical ways to store your data. On some pages you can watch videos which use a video player with its own third-party cookies. The third party is Vimeo and their cookies are needed by the video player for technical reasons. The cookies are not for advertising purposes.

    Changes to our privacy practices

We give you opportunities to add or remove permissions for us and others to access your data, so we do not send general notices about changes to our privacy practices. If you want to find out the current practices, you can get that here. If you want to get the version of this privacy notice from the time when you registered, please contact our Data Protection Officer via the contact info on this page.

How can you contact a data protection regulator?

If you are in the European Union, search for the Information Commissioner's Office in the country where you are. If you are outside the EU, please search for the equivalent regulator where you are.
